Faridabad, FEB 7: The Surajkund International Crafts Fair was struck by tragedy on Saturday as two separate structural failures resulted in the death of a police officer and left 13 others injured. Inspector Jagdish, a dedicated officer from Palwal set to retire next month, died while attempting to rescue people from a fallen amusement ride.

Witnesses described a scene of panic at approximately 6 pm when a swing carrying more than a dozen riders lost its balance and slammed into the fairground. Before this, the collapse of Gate No. 2 at 5 pm had already caused injuries to two individuals, including a child.

“I saw the swing come down and immediately people and police officers ran toward the wreckage to pull the injured out,” an eyewitness mentioned during the rescue operation.

The impact of the swing also injured a stall operator, identified as Raghav, who was struck by a grill during the chaotic aftermath. Authorities confirmed that the injured are receiving treatment across various hospitals in Faridabad.

Inspector Jagdish is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son. His colleagues remembered him as a courageous officer who put the safety of the public above his own during his final moments of duty.

“The incidents are being treated with the utmost seriousness. We are looking into the technical causes of both the gate and swing collapses to ensure accountability,” a senior police officer directly said.
