Chandigarh, Nov 4: The Chandigarh Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has directed the drivers, vehicle owners, and the insurance company to jointly pay ₹15.63 lakh compensation to the parents of Neeraj Kumar, a 23-year-old co-driver from Himachal Pradesh who died in a 2020 accident in Rajasthan.
Neeraj was travelling in a canter carrying goods from Nagaur to Srinagar when it rammed into a truck near Kotputli city after the truck driver allegedly applied sudden brakes. He died on the spot.
His parents, Lata Devi and Bal Mukand of Solan, filed a claim through advocate Sunil Kumar Dixit, alleging negligence by both drivers. They said Neeraj earned ₹19,500 per month and supported them financially.
While the respondents denied the charges, the Tribunal found them liable and ordered compensation of ₹15,63,179 with 7.5% interest from the date of filing till payment.
