Tarn Taran, May 9 — Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Punjab Police has busted a Pakistan-linked narco-terror module in Tarn Taran district, arresting two individuals and seizing a large cache of arms, ammunition, and drugs.
The accused, identified as Jagroop Singh and Lovepreet Singh, were apprehended by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team from the Thana City area during a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the operation was led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhimanyu Rana. “The team had credible inputs about a narco-terror network attempting to trigger a major disturbance in the region. This successful crackdown is a significant blow to cross-border terror networks,” DGP Yadav said in a statement.
The seizure included seven pistols, seven magazines, approximately 80 live cartridges, five kilograms of heroin, Rs 7.20 lakh in drug proceeds, and a currency counting machine.
Officials confirmed that the arrests have exposed the module’s links to operatives based in Pakistan. “We believe the suspects were working on the directions of handlers across the border,” a senior police official said.
A case has been registered at Thana City police station, and both accused are set to be produced in court later today. Police will seek remand for further interrogation.
The operation is being viewed as part of broader efforts by Punjab Police to dismantle narco-terror networks operating with foreign backing.
