Chandigarh/Amritsar, November 7: Amritsar police have arrested two men and seized more than 2.8 kg of Methamphetamine (ICE) in a major crackdown on Pakistan-linked drug supply modules, officials said on Friday. The operation is part of Punjab’s initiative to combat narcotics under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directive.
The arrested individuals are Gursevak Singh alias Sevak, from Gharyala village in Tarn Taran, and Baljit Singh, from Guru Nanakpura, Amritsar. DGP Gaurav Yadav said the men were in contact with Pakistan-based handlers using virtual numbers and often selected delivery points near religious sites to evade detection.
CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, “During the first operation near Dana Mandi, Gursevak Singh was apprehended with 40 grams of ICE. Subsequent searches yielded another 1.96 kg. In a separate operation near Ryan International School, Baljit Singh was caught with 45 grams, and a further 770 grams were recovered.”
Two FIRs—FIR No. 306 at Gate Hakima police station and FIR No. 240 at Maqboolpura police station—have been registered under sections 21(B) and 21(C) of the NDPS Act. CP Bhullar confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the cross-border handlers, map supply routes, and dismantle the entire distribution network operating between Pakistan and Punjab.
