Ferozepur, June 7 — A day after a man was shot dead in a busy area of Ferozepur city, police arrested two individuals, including the father-son duo allegedly involved in the shootout. Authorities have linked the incident to an internal gang dispute.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh confirmed the arrests of Angrej Singh and his father Joginder Singh, alias Lalu. “Seven persons have been named in the FIR, including known gangster Ashish Chopra and several others linked to local criminal networks,” he said.
The deceased, Ashu Monga, was killed on Thursday evening during a confrontation inside a tattoo shop. Based on a complaint filed by his wife, Pawandeep Kaur, the police booked Ashish Chopra, Amrik Singh alias Amrika, Gurdit Singh, Angrej Singh, Joginder Singh alias Lalu, Shivam Sehgal alias Sanga, and Yuvraj alias Yuvi, along with four to five unidentified individuals.
The case has been registered under Sections 103, 191(3), 190 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
In a parallel development, a cross-case was registered on the complaint of the tattoo shop owner where the incident took place. The deceased, Ashu Monga, was among the six accused in this case. Others named include Gurjinder Singh alias Guri, Nadda alias Sahba or Sarabjit, Lakha, Amarjit, and Dev Sharma, also under similar sections of the BNS and Arms Act.
“All the individuals involved are affiliated with the same gang. The shooting stemmed from internal strife,” SSP Bhupinder Singh explained. According to him, Ashu and his associates had arrived at the shop with the intent to attack Yuvraj, Amrik Singh, and Shivam Sehgal. “However, during the exchange of fire, Ashu was fatally shot,” he added.
Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests are expected as police trace the remaining accused.
