CHANDIGARH, May 23: A post-school brawl stemming from a volleyball dispute left two Class 12 students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, injured in a violent stabbing incident on Wednesday, Police said on Friday.
The clash occurred in Sector 23-C, where one of the victims, a 17-year-old resident of Mohali, alleged that a heated argument during the school’s sports period escalated after hours. He claimed that while he and a friend were standing in a parking lot, members of a rival student group arrived in a grey Honda City, armed with sticks, slingshots, and knives.
“They mocked us and then attacked. I was stabbed in the back, and my friend got injured trying to protect me,” the victim said. The duo managed to flee in a car, but the attackers hurled bricks at the vehicle, he added.
The injured were initially taken to GMSH-16, but one of them was later referred to PGI due to the severity of his condition. Police said efforts to record the victim’s statement at PGI were unsuccessful as the attending senior medical officer declared him unfit to testify.
A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to unlawful assembly, rioting, voluntarily causing hurt and grievous injuries, wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation. Police are verifying identities and searching for the suspects.
