Two suspected ISIS operatives arrested in Delhi, Jharkhand

NEW DELHI, 10 Sept — Delhi Police’s Special Cell, in coordination with the Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Ranchi police, arrested two suspected ISIS operatives in a joint operation, officials said on Wednesday.

The prime accused, Ashar Danish, a native of Bokaro, was apprehended in Ranchi. Another suspect, identified as Aftab, was arrested from Delhi during simultaneous action carried out by the security teams, police said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that both men were in contact with other members of an ISIS-inspired network and were involved in activities aimed at furthering the terror outfit’s agenda in India. “The investigation so far suggests they were actively engaged in supporting the group’s operations within the country,” a source involved in the operation said.

Danish had been under the watch of security agencies for several months and was wanted in a case registered by the Delhi Police Special Cell related to an ISIS-linked module. Authorities are continuing interrogations to uncover the full extent of the network and any potential threats.
