KAITHAL, May 20:  — The bodies of two boys, aged 14 and 16, were discovered near a drain in a village under Kaithal district on Monday, police said, in what authorities are calling a targeted killing involving a group of teenagers.

According to Kaithal Superintendent of Police Astha Modi, initial findings suggest the boys were allegedly attacked by about 10 juveniles after one of them reportedly made a remark about the sister of one of the accused. “The two boys had left home around 5 p.m. on Sunday and failed to return. One of the victims had recently cleared his Class 10 exams,” said Modi. “His father lodged a complaint, naming a group of teenagers responsible for the deaths.”

The victims, both residents of the same village, were found with multiple wounds believed to be caused by sharp-edged weapons, said Kaithal Sadar Station House Officer Mukesh Kumar. “There were numerous injury marks on their bodies,” Kumar said. “We have recorded statements from family members, and after the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to their kin.”

Kumar confirmed that all the suspects are minors and a manhunt is underway to track them down. “We are pursuing every lead. The accused are believed to be juveniles and are currently absconding,” he added.

Police have registered a case under Sections 190, 191(3), 103, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The killings have sent shockwaves through the village community, with residents expressing grief and outrage over the violent deaths and demanding swift action.
