New Delhi, July 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to revolutionary Shaheed Udham Singh on his Shaheedi Diwas, hailing his courage and sacrifice as an enduring inspiration for the nation.
“My humble tribute to the immortal son of Mother India, martyr Udham Singh, on his martyrdom day. His saga of patriotism and bravery will always remain a source of inspiration for the people of the nation,” Modi wrote in a post on X.
Singh, a key figure in India’s freedom struggle, is remembered for avenging the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre by assassinating British officer Michael O’Dwyer in London in 1940. He was hanged in London on July 31, 1940.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered the revolutionary leader, calling his courage “unparalleled.”
“My heartfelt tribute to the great freedom fighter and revolutionary Sardar Udham Singh on his Shaheedi Diwas today. His unparalleled courage and supreme sacrifice remain a source of inspiration for generations. India will always remember his unwavering spirit and deep love for the nation,” Rajnath Singh posted.
Udham Singh continues to be celebrated as a symbol of fearless resistance against colonial rule, and his legacy remains etched in India’s collective memory.
