UT notice to Taj

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Nov 27: The Taj Hotel in Sector 17 has been asked to explain a series of alleged unauthorised structural changes after the UT Estate Office issued a show-cause notice under the Chandigarh Estate Rules, 2007. The hotel has 15 days to file its reply or appear for a hearing.

“If they fail to respond, the case will be decided ex parte,” an Estate Office official said.

The notice states that the hotel violated conditions of allotment under the Capital of Punjab (Development & Regulation) Act, 1952. Officials said the earlier rules governing the property — including the 1960 and 1973 building regulations — now stand replaced by the revised 2007 Estate Rules.

A prima facie inspection found multiple deviations from the sanctioned plan: the fire alarm main panel room altered in the basement, a corridor behind the fire lift turned into office space, changes made to the staircase near the fire lift, a parking bay used as storage and reworked layouts in rooms meant for recreation and drivers.

“These alterations required prior approval, which was never sought,” an official said.

The Estate Office has directed the hotel to remove all violations within two months or face action under Rule 14, including sealing, cancellation or resumption of the property.

The notice further states that the hotel will be charged ₹6 per sq ft per day for the area under violation, with unpaid amounts recovered as land revenue.
