DEHRADUN, March 17— Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) has directed state departments to finalize all preparations for the Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra, which is set to begin with the departure of the first pilgrimage batch from Rishikesh on May 20. The announcement followed a courtesy call by Hemkund Sahib Management Trust President Narendrajit Singh Bindra on Tuesday.
The shrine’s portals will be formally opened for ‘darshan’ on May 23, 2026. The Governor affirmed that the state is committed to providing a secure and accessible environment for the thousands of pilgrims expected this year. He asserted that infrastructure development along the pilgrimage tracks is being closely monitored to ensure the routes are ready for the influx of travelers.
During the meeting at Lok Bhawan, the Governor expressed his approval of the current level of cooperation between local authorities and the shrine management. He asserted that a pleasant and auspicious experience for the devotees remains the administration’s primary objective.
“The pilgrimage must remain safe, accessible, and convenient for the devotees,” the Governor stated. He declared that he expects all logistical works to be executed with precision, extending his best wishes to those traveling from both within India and international locations for the upcoming season.
