Mohali, Sept. 25 — Police on Thursday arrested a man accused of multiple vehicle thefts and recovered five motorcycles and a scooty from his possession. The arrest followed the theft of an Activa scooter reported on September 12 outside a university in Gharuan.
Police identified the accused as Sawarnpreet Singh, a resident of Chahjumajra near Chamkaur Sahib. He was taken into custody by teams led by SHO Gharuan SI Balwinder Singh and supervised by DSP Kharar Karan Sandhu, acting on intelligence inputs.
Officials said Singh already faces four theft cases. After being produced in court, he was remanded to police custody for two days. During interrogation, he disclosed the involvement of another accomplice.
Based on his statement, police recovered the stolen vehicles, though the second accused, Amritpal Singh, remains at large. A case has been registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Authorities said efforts are under way to trace and arrest Amritpal.
