Vendors, Shopkeepers Face Action in Ludhiana for Encroaching

by TheReportingTimes

LUDHIANA, May 17  — Cracking down on unauthorized roadside encroachments, the Ludhiana Traffic Police served formal notices to more than half a dozen street vendors and shopkeepers along Pakhowal Road. The enforcement drive was led by Sub-Inspector Bibalpal Kaur, in-charge of Traffic Zone 6, as part of the department’s ongoing initiative to ensure smooth traffic flow and safer footpaths in high-density city areas.

Kaur said the operation targets those who have extended their shops or pushcarts beyond the yellow lines demarcating no-tolerance zones on public roads. “Illegal encroachments are a growing menace. They obstruct traffic and put pedestrians, including children and senior citizens, at serious risk,” she said.

The police have warned that repeat violations will result in legal proceedings without further warning. “We will take strict legal action against those found violating the yellow line again,” Kaur added.

According to traffic officials, offenders may also face additional penalties, including the confiscation of goods by the municipal corporation and separate challans.

The department has intensified its efforts following frequent complaints about congested roads and blocked sidewalks, particularly in commercial stretches like Pakhowal Road. Authorities say the zero-tolerance approach is aimed at reclaiming public spaces and protecting pedestrian rights.
