Violent Clashes Erupt Over Money Dispute in Manimajra

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH/ZIRAKPUR, May 12: Two violent incidents over the weekend—one a financial dispute near Manimajra bus stand and the other a road rage assault on VIP Road in Zirakpur—have left multiple individuals injured and prompted police investigations, authorities said on Sunday.

In the first incident, a monetary disagreement escalated into a physical clash between two groups late Saturday evening near the Manimajra bus stand. According to police, Naveen Hooda approached Abdul Wahid, who runs a Verka booth near the bus stand, reportedly to collect money he had lent.

The conversation turned into a heated exchange and quickly descended into violence.

Eyewitness accounts cited in the FIR claim Wahid initiated the attack on Hooda. However, Wahid, in his counter-complaint, alleged that Hooda and his associates assaulted him and his nephews, Mosin and Ashkar Ali alias Jassi.

He further claimed that Hooda brandished a licensed pistol and attempted to open fire, but was overpowered by local residents, who managed to seize the weapon before police took custody of it.

“No one was hospitalised, but both sides sustained injuries,” a police official said. FIRs have been registered against both groups, and a probe is underway.

A mobile forensic team videographed the scene, and CCTV footage is being analyzed to piece together the sequence of events.

In a separate case in Zirakpur on Friday, a man sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a group of youths following a collision between his car and their motorcycle on VIP Road.

Jawala Singh, who was on his way to his jewellery shop, was allegedly confronted by two bikers near Domino’s Chowk after asking them to make way.

According to his wife Shireen, the youths responded with verbal abuse and summoned three to four more individuals from a nearby parked vehicle, who proceeded to assault him.

“One of them was wearing a metal knuckle duster and struck my husband repeatedly on his head, chest, and stomach,” she said.

“Despite traffic police being present, they did not intervene.”

Witnesses told police that up to 10-12 youths from a nearby gym joined in the assault. During the melee, the victim’s gold chain, cash, and other jewellery were allegedly stolen from his vehicle.

Jawala Singh was admitted to a private hospital and received six stitches to his head. He has been hospitalised for two days, his family said.

Despite video and photographic evidence submitted by the family, they claimed no arrests had been made.

Investigating officer Raj Kumar from Zirakpur police station said, “Both parties have sustained injuries. We will act only after recording statements from both sides. CCTV footage is being examined. The guilty will face consequences.”

Authorities have yet to confirm if the suspects in either case have been detained. Investigations in both incidents remain ongoing.
