Western Disturbance Brings Rain, Fog to North India

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Jan 1— A fresh western disturbance is set to affect large parts of north and northwest India, bringing light to moderate rainfall, snowfall in higher reaches and dense fog across several states, the India Meteorological Department said.

The IMD has forecast scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall or snowfall across the Western Himalayan region from Dec. 30 to Jan. 2. The weather department has also warned of dense to very dense fog on Thursday across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and East Uttar Pradesh.

Dr. Naresh Kumar, an IMD scientist, said the disturbance is currently active over North Pakistan and is expected to impact weather conditions in the coming days.

“Due to the effect of this western disturbance, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall is likely in the Western Himalayan region over the next two to three days,” Kumar told PTI.

He added that parts of Punjab, Haryana and north Rajasthan may experience light rainfall, while the national capital region could see very light to light rain on the first day of 2026.

The changing weather pattern is expected to sustain cold conditions across the region, particularly during night and early morning hours, the IMD said.
