Winter schedule revised for Punjab schools

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Jan 15: Punjab’s education department has implemented a new winter timetable for schools throughout the state in response to the intensifying cold spell. The adjustment, which applies to all educational institutions, shifts the daily start time to 10 am to minimize exposure to the morning chill.

While all students will arrive at the same time, the closing hours have been staggered based on grade level. Students in primary classes will finish their day at 3 pm, whereas those in middle and senior secondary classes will remain in school until 3:20 pm.

“All schools have been directed to follow the revised schedule without exception,” the education department noted in its latest circular.

The move follows several weeks of fluctuating winter breaks and previous holiday extensions. Officials directly said the shift is a necessary measure to ensure child safety during their daily commute, as temperatures in some districts have recently dropped to near-freezing levels.
