Abohar, April 12: A woman and her family members were allegedly assaulted by a Punjab Roadways bus driver and conductor after she questioned why the bus did not stop at a designated point near Gumjal village.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on April 8, came to light after a video surfaced on social media. The victim, Priyanka, a resident of Gumjal, filed a complaint the same day at the Kallar Khera police check-post, but claims no action has been taken yet.
Priyanka told police she boarded the bus at Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, and had requested the conductor to stop at Gumjal so her mother could board. The bus, however, did not halt. Her brother Abhimanyu then brought their mother to the next stop at Usmankhera.
When Priyanka confronted the conductor over the missed stop, she alleged that both he and the driver assaulted her and her mother. Her brother, who intervened, was also allegedly beaten.
The Gumjal village panchayat had earlier submitted a memorandum on January 26 to Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, requesting that state-run buses routinely stop at the village.
