Youth Fined ₹35,000 for Thar Stunt in 3B2 Market

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, July 23: A group of youngsters faced swift police action after a video of them performing reckless stunts atop a moving Thar SUV in Mohali’s busy Phase 3B2 market went viral on social media. The Mataur police seized the vehicle and issued a challan of ₹35,000 to the driver for creating public nuisance and failing to produce valid documents.

The incident, which occurred late at night, was captured on video and quickly gained traction online. It showed several youths blaring loud music, climbing on top of the moving SUV, and shouting at bystanders—causing panic and disrupting the peace in the otherwise family-friendly market area.

“This was not just dangerous but also deeply irresponsible,” said Station House Officer Amandeep Singh Kamboj of Mataur police station. “The video clearly shows the youths disturbing the public and engaging in disorderly conduct. We traced the Thar and summoned the driver to the police station. The vehicle was impounded, and a challan of ₹35,000 was issued.”

Police confirmed that the SUV was registered in Chandigarh, but the young driver, a resident of Kharar, could not produce valid documents for the vehicle.

Calling the act an example of “public hooliganism,” SHO Kamboj said such behaviour will not be tolerated. “This market is frequently visited by families and people from nearby towns. Ensuring their safety and peace is our top priority,” he said. “Any attempt to turn public spaces into personal stunt arenas will be met with strict legal consequences.”

Authorities have also issued a public appeal, urging residents—especially youth—not to misuse public places for stunts or creating social media content that can endanger lives or cause disruptions. Police said such actions could attract serious charges under relevant sections of the law.
