Chandigarh, March 21 2025— A district court on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old man to 10 years of imprisonment for possessing 308 grams of heroin in 2022. The court also imposed a ₹1 lakh fine on the convict, identified as Vishal of Patiala.
He was arrested by the crime branch team and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Sarangpur police station.
According to the prosecution, the crime branch team was deployed outside the EWS Colony in Dhanas on October 14, 2022. They spotted a grey Maruti Suzuki Swift approaching from the colony. When the driver attempted to turn the vehicle upon noticing the police, the team rushed toward him.
Vishal allegedly tried to discard a packet, but the police apprehended him. A search led to the recovery of 308 grams of heroin. During the investigation, police found that he sourced the drugs from Delhi’s Dwarka and supplied them to Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula.
