Amritsar, Aug 21 — Amritsar Rural Police, acting on intelligence inputs, have arrested a youth accused of conspiring with pro-Khalistan elements to create unrest in Punjab.
The accused, identified as Malkit Singh of Pandori village, was arrested with a hand grenade, a .30 bore pistol, and live cartridges, police said Thursday. An FIR has been registered, and investigators are probing possible wider links.
According to initial findings, Singh is suspected of having ties with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), an outfit long backed by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. Police said his network extended to UK-based gangster Dharam Sandhu, a known associate of Harvinder Rinda, a key BKI operative believed to be working with ISI support.
“Preliminary interrogation has revealed Singh’s direct association with Dharam Sandhu,” officials said, adding that the probe is being conducted in coordination with central agencies. “Efforts are underway to identify and arrest others involved in the conspiracy.”
Police sources said the recovery of arms and ammunition points to a larger network, which investigators are now trying to map through questioning of the accused.
Officials stressed that the investigation was being pursued “expeditiously” and that further arrests could follow.
