Palwal, Haryana, Oct 3– The Palwal police have arrested a YouTuber, Wasim Akram, on charges of espionage for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Pakistan High Commission.
Wasim, a resident of Kot village in Hathin area, had been creating videos on the history of Mewat on YouTube. Police said he had been in contact with Pakistani agents for the past three years and had even met them in Delhi, where he allegedly provided SIM cards.
“Both the accused were in touch with Pakistani High Commission and ISI. Our crime branch teams are questioning them on police remand. Further probe is underway,” said SP Palwal Varun Singla.
According to investigators, Wasim first came into contact with a Pakistani agent named Danish in 2021 while applying for a visa. Though his family denied he ever travelled to Pakistan, interrogation revealed otherwise. Police have recovered WhatsApp chats from his phone, some of which had been deleted, and the cyber cell is working to retrieve them.
His arrest follows that of another alleged Pakistani spy, Taufiq, a resident of Alimev village, who was held on September 26. Taufiq had been sending sensitive information to Pakistan since 2022 and reportedly revealed Wasim’s name during questioning. Both are now in police custody.
The Intelligence Bureau is in close coordination with Palwal police, and more arrests are expected. Notably, in May this year, Hisar police also arrested YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra on charges of espionage for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence during her visits to Pakistan.
