SRINAGAR, Dec 18 — Harsh winter conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night, with large parts of the Kashmir Valley recording sub-zero minimum temperatures and Zojila Pass plunging to minus 17 degrees Celsius, officials said.
Weather data compiled by Kashmir Weather showed Awantipora as the coldest location in the Valley at minus 3.8°C, followed by Pulwama at minus 3.2°C. Pampore and Baramulla recorded minus 1.8°C each, while Shopian logged minus 1.5°C.
Srinagar remained just above freezing at 0.2°C, while the Srinagar airport recorded a minimum of 0.0°C. Kupwara settled at minus 1.0°C, Anantnag at minus 0.3°C, Budgam and Bandipora at minus 0.8°C each, and Ganderbal at minus 0.1°C.
Tourist resorts also experienced chilly nights. Pahalgam recorded 0.4°C, Gulmarg 1.6°C and Sonamarg 2.1°C. Kulgam saw a low of 2.0°C, Kokernag 1.8°C and Qazigund 0.8°C. The Zethan Rafiabad station did not report data due to technical issues.
In contrast, the Jammu region continued to record milder night temperatures. Jammu city recorded 11.0°C and the airport 11.5°C, while Katra registered 12.1°C. Banihal recorded 5.7°C, Bhaderwah 5.0°C, Batote 9.5°C and Kathua 8.8°C.
Rajouri recorded the lowest temperature in the region at 3.0°C, followed by Udhampur at 6.1°C. Ramban recorded 8.3°C, Samba 7.1°C, Kishtwar 8.6°C, Reasi 9.7°C and Doda 8.8°C.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.4°C, while temperature data for Kargil and Nubra Valley was unavailable.
