₹708-Cr Plan to Future-Proof Mohali

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, Jan 11: Punjab has unveiled an ambitious ₹708-crore roadmap to eliminate energy bottlenecks in Mohali, positioning the city as North India’s premier destination for IT, AI, and data centers.

The integrated plan, described as the city’s largest power push in six decades, focuses on building a redundant and resilient network. A major pillar of the project is a ₹354-crore investment in grid-level interventions, including a new 220 kV grid at IT City Sector 101, expected to be operational within 15 months. Minister Sanjeev Arora noted that the upgrade is strategically timed ahead of the Invest Punjab Summit in March.

“This is not just about power supply, it’s about confidence. Reliable electricity means faster growth and more jobs,” Arora said during the project announcement.

The distribution network is also receiving a ₹172-crore facelift to reduce outages. This includes replacing bare wires with insulated cables and bifurcating overloaded feeders. By capping feeder loads and shortening transmission lines, the state aims to ensure that Mohali remains a “magnet for industry” without the risk of power failures or voltage drops.
