12.10-kg heroin seized in Faridkot, 2 arrested

Faridkot, Sep 10: In the biggest-ever drug haul in the district, police seized 12.10 kg of heroin and arrested two men allegedly linked to a cross-border smuggling racket. Investigators said the consignment had been dropped from Pakistan using a drone and was meant for local distribution.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pragya Jain said the raid was conducted at a house in Jhariwala village following a tip-off. “We have arrested Sukhpreet Singh and Kadar Singh and recovered heroin from the premises. The accused had arranged for the consignment to be dropped across the border via drone and were storing it for supply to other traffickers,” Jain stated.

Calling it the largest single-day heroin seizure in Faridkot’s history, the SSP confirmed both accused are in police custody and are being interrogated to trace their wider network, including alleged links with Pakistani smugglers and the methods used to push such large consignments across the border.

Police sources noted that smugglers are exploiting Punjab’s ongoing flood crisis to expand their operations. Just three days ago, Faridkot police seized 880 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a truck headed to Gujarat, where liquor sales are prohibited. The consignment originated from Baghapurana in Moga district. In a separate operation, Moga police intercepted another truck and recovered 120 cartons of liquor, further exposing attempts to push contraband during the state’s emergency.
