Chandigarh, June 11 — The Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) arrested 1,801 individuals, including 332 for possessing or trafficking in commercial quantities of drugs, in a sweeping crackdown carried out in the first four months of 2025, according to Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary (Home).
“This data reflects the state’s continued commitment to tackling drug trafficking and substance abuse through firm enforcement,” Misra said in a statement issued Tuesday.
Between January and April 2025, the HSNCB conducted major anti-narcotic operations leading to the seizure of 22.40 kg of heroin, 58 kg of charas, 1,521 kg of ganja, 87 kg of opium, and 6,766 kg of poppy straw. Additionally, the agency confiscated 1,609 bottles, 48,982 capsules, 3,152 injectable drugs, over 95,000 tablets, and 128 kg of opium poppy, Misra said.
During the same period, authorities registered 1,130 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including 143 cases involving commercial quantity seizures. In preventive action, 34 individuals were detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act, 1988, she added.
Misra urged the public to actively participate in the fight against drug abuse by using the MANAS Helpline (1933) — a 24×7 confidential service aimed at community-led reporting and support.
“The role of the community is crucial. People can use the helpline to report suspicious activity anonymously and support our efforts,” she said.
The crackdown is part of a broader strategy by the Haryana government to tackle narcotics both at the supply and demand levels.
