3 Army Personnel Injured in Terrorist Attack in Assam’s Tinsukia

by TheReportingTimes

Guwahati, October 17: Three Army personnel sustained minor injuries after terrorists opened fire on a security forces’ camp in Assam’s Tinsukia district early Friday, a defence spokesperson said.

The attack took place around 12.30 am when assailants fired from a moving vehicle at the Kakopathar Company location, close to the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

“The troops on duty immediately retaliated and effectively responded while taking precautions to avoid any collateral damage to civilian houses nearby,” the Army spokesperson said.

He added that the attackers fled after “carrying out speculative firing using automatic weapons” following the Army’s counterfire. “No major injuries were sustained other than minor abrasions to three personnel,” the spokesperson noted.

The area has since been sanitised, and a joint search operation involving the Army and the police is underway to track down the terrorists.

Officials said the region, located along the inter-state boundary, has seen occasional militant movements in recent years, prompting increased surveillance by security forces.
