PANCHKULA, Aug 25 — A three-year-old girl lost her life on Saturday afternoon after being run over by a reversing pickup truck at Mansa Devi Complex in Sector 6, Panchkula.
The victim, identified as Mansi, was the daughter of a migrant labourer employed at a bungalow construction site in the area. Police said the truck had arrived to deliver construction material when the incident occurred.
In his complaint to police, Deepak Vanskar, a fellow labourer and relative of the child, said, “I was working with my family when the truck came. While reversing, the driver seemed to lose control and ran over Mansi.”
The girl was immediately rushed to Sector-6 Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Police confirmed that the driver fled the scene after the accident.
Authorities have registered a case and initiated a search for the truck driver. “We are examining CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to identify the driver,” said a police officer familiar with the case.
Neighbours and co-workers expressed shock over the tragic loss. “She was playing nearby when this happened. It is heartbreaking,” said one labourer who witnessed the aftermath.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and labourers working in the area about safety measures around construction sites and the risks posed by large vehicles operating in residential complexes.
Police have urged anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle to come forward to assist in the investigation.
