Solan, May 3: In a crackdown on illegal opium cultivation, Baga police seized 381 opium plants from a resident of Kandaar village in Himachal Pradesh’s Darlaghat area, officials said on Saturday.
Solan Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said the action followed a tip-off received during routine patrolling on Friday evening.
“We were informed that one Avtar Singh had cultivated opium on land in front of his house. A police team raided the location and recovered 381 illegally grown opium plants,” Singh said.
A case under Section 18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Baga police station.
The accused, identified as Avtar Singh, 50, was arrested and produced in court today for remand.
During preliminary investigation, police also discovered that Singh is already facing charges in a separate assault case registered at Darlaghat police station.
The probe in that matter is ongoing, officials confirmed.
