BARNALA, 25 August — Four associates of the Davinder Bambiha gang were arrested in Barnala, Punjab, on Monday, with police seizing four pistols during the operation, authorities said.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav told reporters on X that the arrested men — Satnam Singh alias Satti, Gurpreet Singh alias Guri, Sarm Singh alias Rinku, and Deepak Singh — were allegedly conspiring to carry out a major robbery in the region.
“During a naka operation, the accused opened fire on the police party,” Yadav said. “Our personnel overpowered the assailants and took them into custody.”
Police recovered one Zigana pistol and three other firearms (.30 and .32 bore) loaded with live cartridges from the suspects, the DGP added.
Satnam Singh, described by authorities as a habitual offender, has 22 previous cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, and violations under the Arms Act and NDPS Act. Sarm Singh and Deepak Singh are also reportedly linked to narcotics trade.
Interrogation of the suspects is ongoing, and officials said further disclosures are expected.
“Operations like these highlight the continued efforts of our force to dismantle organized crime networks in Punjab,” Yadav noted.
Barnala police confirmed that the arrested gang members will be presented before a local court after completing initial investigation formalities.
