4 Held in Amritsar with 7 Pistols Smuggled from Pakistan

by TheReportingTimes

Amritsar, Aug 1 — Amritsar police have arrested four individuals—including a juvenile—and seized seven pistols allegedly smuggled from Pakistan, police said.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, in a post on X, said two trans-border weapon smuggling modules were busted in the operation. “The weapons were meant to fuel gang rivalries and disrupt peace in the region,” he said, adding that the arrests followed leads indicating direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers.

During preliminary investigation, it emerged that the accused had recently retrieved a weapon consignment from the Indo-Pak border. The arrested individuals were identified as Sikanderjeet Singh of Bhagwanpura village, Pradeep Singh alias Babbi of Antarjami Colony, and Jarnail Singh of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar in Amritsar, along with a juvenile from Mastgarh village, Tarn Taran.

The police recovered seven pistols, including one 9mm, four .30 bore (including a Glock), and two .32 bore pistols. In addition, six live cartridges and a motorcycle used in the operation were also seized.

DGP Yadav said further investigation is under way to identify backward and forward linkages, including the handlers in Pakistan and possible local recipients or gang networks in Punjab.

Police officials said the arrests are part of an ongoing effort to curb the influx of illegal arms into the state, especially amid rising concerns over gang-related violence and cross-border smuggling using drones and couriers near the international border.
