NEW DELHI, May 21: India on Wednesday declared a Pakistani official posted at the Pakistan High Commission as persona non grata and ordered him to leave the country within 24 hours, citing activities “not in keeping with his official status.”
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement, “The Government of India has declared a Pakistani official, working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, persona non grata. The official has been asked to leave India within 24 hours.”
The MEA summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission and issued a formal demarche, urging strict compliance with diplomatic norms.
“He was asked to ensure that Pakistani diplomats do not misuse their privileges or status while in India,” the MEA added.
Further details of the official’s alleged activities have not been made public.
