Chandigarh | June 15 – A delegation of political and religious leaders led by former Mayor Arun Sood met UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Saturday, seeking immediate withdrawal of demolition notices issued to several religious institutions across the city.
Raising strong objections, the delegation said the notices issued by the Chandigarh Administration violate existing court orders which protect all religious structures established before 2009. “Issuing such notices without thorough investigation and in clear defiance of judicial directions is unlawful,” said Arun Sood during the meeting.
The delegation included Hindu Mahaparv Sabha president B.P. Arora, Central Gurdwara Sabha chief Sardar Tara Singh, and other senior representatives of religious organisations. They appealed to the Administration to take prompt action to safeguard the rights of religious institutions and ensure compliance with court directives.
“These places of worship are not just physical structures—they hold deep emotional and spiritual value for the communities. We expect the Administration to respect judicial rulings and act in the spirit of public faith,” said Sardar Tara Singh after the meeting.
The delegation expressed optimism that the Administrator would intervene to halt the demolition drive and restore confidence among religious communities.
