Kapurthala’s Kamalpreet Commissioned in Royal Australian Air Force

KAPURTHALA, June 24 — Kamalpreet Singh, a 33-year-old native of Kapurthala, has brought pride to his hometown and state by being commissioned as a Flying Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), marking a milestone in a journey shaped by perseverance, family tradition, and an unyielding dream.

Kamalpreet, who completed his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya and Army Public School in Kapurthala, went on to earn a BTech degree from a college in Jalandhar. Though he initially aspired to join the defence forces in India, life took a different course.

“He always wanted to serve in the armed forces,” said his father, Sewa Singh, a retired Army man. “He gave it his all while in India, but things didn’t work out. After moving to Australia in 2017, he kept that dream alive—and now he has achieved it.”

The Singh family shifted to Australia gradually, with Kamalpreet’s three brothers settling there first. Sewa Singh and his wife joined them in 2019. Before moving abroad, Sewa Singh had worked as an engineer at a thermal power plant in Goindwal Sahib, Punjab.

Kamalpreet’s elder brother, Sarabjit Singh, currently serves as an officer with the New South Wales Police Force. The sense of duty and service, Sewa Singh said, is deeply embedded in their lineage.

“My grandfather was in the Army, I served too, and now Kamalpreet carries that legacy forward in a new country. This is a proud moment for our entire family,” he said, acknowledging the years of effort behind his son’s achievement.

As Kamalpreet steps into his new role in the RAAF, his story stands as a testament to resilience and the enduring value of service—crossing borders, yet firmly grounded in the ideals of dedication and national pride.
