KAPURTHALA, July 9 — Continuing their crackdown on drug trafficking, Kapurthala police arrested three suspected drug peddlers and recovered a total of 80 grams of heroin in two separate operations on Wednesday. All three have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is ongoing.

In the first operation, a team from the CIA staff led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Keval Singh apprehended a woman near the Lakhan Kalan village turn. The accused, identified as Meeko, a resident of Lakhan Kalan, was found in possession of 40 grams of heroin. A case was registered at the Sadar Police Station, and she was presented before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody.

In the second incident, Subhanpur police intercepted an Alto car at Subhanpur Chowk, leading to the arrest of two men — Varinder Singh alias Mangli and his associate Ravipal, both residents of Jalandhar. The duo was caught with 40 grams of heroin near Kala Bakra during a routine search.

SHO Amandeep Kumar of Subhanpur Police Station confirmed the arrests. “Both men have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and are currently being interrogated for further leads,” he said.

Police officials said the operations are part of a broader push to curb drug distribution networks in the district. “We are committed to taking firm action against those involved in drug peddling,” an officer stated.

Authorities said more raids and follow-up investigations are expected in the coming days.
