CHANDIGARH, July 11— A 44-year-old man died after a speeding, unidentified car struck his motorcycle on the Zirakpur flyover on Thursday evening. The victim, identified as Varinder, a resident of Raipur Kalan in Chandigarh, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
His friend, who was riding pillion and sustained minor injuries, told police that the two were travelling on the flyover when a fast-moving car rammed into them from behind. “The impact threw us off the bike,” the injured man recounted. Passersby quickly rushed the duo to the hospital, but Varinder could not be saved.
According to the police, the driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the collision. “No eyewitness was able to capture the vehicle’s registration number or identify the driver,” a police official said. Investigators are now relying on footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the area to locate the vehicle and its driver.
The police have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash and negligent driving), 106 (causing death by negligence), and 125A (concealing information) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
