Mohali MC Nets ₹20 Crore Under Property Tax OTS

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, Aug 2 — The Municipal Corporation (MC) Mohali has collected a record-breaking ₹20 crore in property tax arrears under the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, marking a nearly threefold increase over the previous year’s figures. The scheme, launched by the Punjab government to clear long-pending dues, concluded on July 31, 2025.

Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh Sandhu said the spike in revenue was a result of both strong public participation and tireless groundwork by municipal teams. “This significant rise in collection reflects both the public’s positive response to the scheme and the hard work of our teams on the ground,” Sandhu said.

A large portion of the amount came from commercial property owners, many of whom stepped forward voluntarily to settle their dues. Officials noted that this surge in compliance sends a strong message of civic responsibility and collective effort.

Dr Sanjeev Kamboj, Medical Officer of Health and in-charge of the property tax branch, lauded the dedication of MC staff, many of whom worked extended hours to meet the last-minute rush. “Our staff’s dedication was extraordinary. Many of them worked until midnight to ensure no citizen was left unattended,” Kamboj said.

In the final days leading to the deadline, MC teams reportedly remained on duty late into the night to accommodate the influx of taxpayers seeking to avail the benefits of the OTS scheme.

Commissioner Sandhu credited the campaign’s success to the strong collaboration between officials and residents. “The overwhelming support from citizens has made this campaign a resounding success,” he said, thanking both the MC workforce and the public for making the drive effective and efficient.

The impressive revenue haul is expected to give a much-needed boost to the MC’s civic development initiatives and strengthen its financial standing moving forward.
