AMBALA, Aug 4 – A 31-year-old man undergoing treatment at a private drug de-addiction centre here died under suspicious circumstances, triggering serious allegations of torture and foul play by his family.
The victim, admitted to the centre for the past two months, was declared dead on Saturday night. The family was informed and directed to reach the Community Health Centre in Chourmastpur around 9.15 pm. Upon arrival, a relative alleged that they found the man’s body with visible injury marks, including cuts on his hands and signs of being beaten with sticks.
“He was not killed in an accident. He was tied with ropes and brutally thrashed. The centre staff had fled by the time we reached there,” the relative claimed.
Acting on the family’s complaint, police have registered an FIR against 10 people, including the centre’s operator. SHO Karnaveer Singh of Naggal police station said a post-mortem would be conducted before handing over the body and that investigations are underway.
