15 autos Vandalised in Budhanpur

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, Aug. 18 — Armed miscreants went on a late-night vandalism spree in Budhanpur village, damaging nearly 15 autorickshaws and creating panic among residents in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when several men carrying knives and sticks smashed windows of autos parked near a government school and also attacked property at an Anganwadi building, locals said. Residents further alleged that the group uprooted CCTV cameras installed outside homes in the area.

Eyewitnesses claimed the attackers threatened villagers who tried to intervene. “Incidents of vandalism and even sword attacks have become common, but police take no action,” said one resident, accusing authorities of ignoring repeated complaints.

Some villagers also alleged that Budhanpur has turned into a hub for criminal activity in recent months, with little deterrence on the ground.

Sector-16 police post in-charge Sub-Inspector Singh Raj, however, rejected claims of negligence and maintained that officers responded promptly. “Police had reached the spot on time and we are investigating the matter. We have received a common complaint and all accused will be arrested soon,” he said.

Officials said additional deployment and surveillance are being considered to prevent further incidents as the investigation progresses.
