Mann inaugurates Chamkaur Sahib hospital

Chamkaur Sahib, Aug 18 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday inaugurated the newly built sub-divisional hospital at Chamkaur Sahib, where he interacted with doctors, patients and staff before inspecting various wards. Later, he attended a separate programme where sports kits were distributed among players.

Speaking at the event, Mann asserted that sustainable solutions like jobs, reliable electricity and quality education were the real tools to fight poverty, not welfare cards. “Blue and yellow cards will not eradicate poverty,” he said. “We have provided 55,000 jobs. Now electricity is available. Earlier, government schools served only porridge or mid-day meals, but today their students are cracking JEE Advanced and NEET. They will now get a package of ₹1 crore.”

The Chief Minister said his government was determined to create opportunities for youth so that the coming generations could thrive.

Health Minister Balbir Singh, who accompanied Mann, announced a major push in the state’s health sector. He said the new hospital had been equipped with an operation centre modeled on PGI and Fortis standards. “One thousand doctors will be joining this month, while the government has already approved the recruitment of 1,200 nurses,” Singh said.

He further informed that 250 doctors had recently graduated from Punjab’s medical colleges and 150 of them would serve in the state itself. Singh assured that government hospitals would provide round-the-clock services to patients.

The minister also said that 225 Jan Aushadhi Kendras had been set up so far across Punjab to provide affordable medicines, which will now also be made available directly from hospitals.
