Udhampur, April 20: A major road accident in the Ram Nagar area of Udhampur resulted in 15 deaths and 20 injuries after a passenger bus rolled into a deep gorge on Monday. The vehicle was reportedly heading to the district headquarters from a distant rural settlement when it met with the accident near Kagort village.

Police and emergency responders asserted that the crash happened as the vehicle attempted to negotiate a difficult blind curve. While 15 bodies have been recovered from the site, rescue teams affirmed that 20 survivors are currently undergoing treatment, with many in critical condition.

Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa is overseeing the relief efforts following a briefing with Union Minister Jitendra Singh. Singh affirmed that the government is providing all necessary resources to the victims and their families.

“Heavy casualties are expected,” Singh asserted while confirming that seriously injured passengers would be shifted for urgent medical aid. He stated that local workers and administrative teams are working in tandem to clear the accident site and assist the survivors.

Authorities noted that the treacherous terrain and the nature of the curve contributed to the fatal plunge. Officials maintained that the focus remains on providing advanced medical care to those evacuated from the wreckage.
