Explaining Manhunt over IRS officer’s Daughter’s Death

Why hotel Wi-Fi and stolen tech were the downfall of a high-profile suspect

New Delhi, April 23: In the investigation into the death of an IRS officer’s daughter in southeast Delhi, the Cyber Crime Division utilized advanced forensic tools to dismantle the suspect’s attempt at evasion. Investigators maintained that the apprehension of Rahul Meena was made possible by his reliance on public and private digital networks following the attack in Kailash Hills.

The department’s strategy focused on three specific technical pillars: the recovery of stolen property, internet protocol tracking, and social media monitoring. Officials stated that Meena’s decision to use a stolen mobile phone provided the initial lead. Although he avoided traditional cellular tracking, his connection to a hotel’s Wi-Fi network in Dwarka generated an IPDR trail that pointed directly to his hideout.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect remained in contact with family members via Instagram while on the run. Police affirmed that these digital conversations, alongside statements from a relative in Gurugram, provided critical context regarding his movements between Rajasthan and Delhi. This information was cross-referenced with CCTV footage that showed the suspect entering the victim’s colony and later escaping with a backpack.

The promptness of the police response ensured that the suspect could not dispose of the stolen device or move to a new location before the technical trap was sprung. Authorities asserted that the case serves as a prime example of how digital evidence now bridges the gap when physical leads are scarce. The suspect is currently in custody, and police maintain that the comprehensive digital trail will form a central part of the legal proceedings.
