by TheReportingTimes

MOSCOW, MAY 16 — Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to arrive in China on Tuesday for a two-day state visit aimed at expanding economic and political cooperation with President Xi Jinping.

The announcement, delivered by the Kremlin on Saturday, establishes a rapid succession of superpower diplomacy in the Chinese capital, following the departure of U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday. The forthcoming talks are expected to focus heavily on stabilizing trade channels and expanding mutual strategic support.

“The two leaders are also likely to sign a joint declaration marking the 25th anniversary of the Russia-China Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Cooperation,” a diplomatic attache noted regarding the scheduled proceedings.

According to reordered details of the itinerary, the summit will feature broader institutional discussions beyond the primary executive meetings. Putin is slated to hold separate economic consultations with Chinese Premier Li Qiang to review energy distribution networks and trade compliance frameworks.

The transition from the U.S.-led talks to the Moscow summit occurs against a backdrop of complex international security developments. Representatives from both capitals stated that the quick succession of meetings underscores Beijing’s position as a central mediator in current global realignments.

The Kremlin statement affirmed that the talks will allow both administrations to clarify their long-term security expectations, specifically regarding the ongoing Ukraine conflict and defense posturing in East Asia, ensuring that bilateral policies remain closely synchronized.
