MOHALI, MAY 29 — A violent altercation during a Wednesday night birthday party resulted in the immediate death of a Balongi resident and left two other men hospitalized with severe knife wounds in Adarsh Nagar Colony.
The victim, Abhishek, succumbed to an immediate fatal injury after being slashed across the neck. The attack also left his close associates, Prashant and Jyotish, with significant defense wounds on their limbs. Emergency services transported both survivors to a Chandigarh hospital, while the sole suspect, Manish, successfully evaded immediate capture by fleeing the crime scene.
Investigating officers revealed that the incident stemmed from an unresolved personal grievance. The three victims had met to celebrate Prashant’s birthday but chose to use the occasion to address a recurring issue involving Manish, who had reportedly been targeting Prashant’s father with continuous verbal harassment.
“The confrontation turned physical almost instantly when the young men sought an explanation for the abuse,” a district police spokesperson asserted. “The suspect drew a knife on Prashant first, then turned the weapon on Abhishek when he attempted to intervene, inflicting a catastrophic injury before slashing the third companion.”
The survivors are facing different paths to recovery following the trauma. While Prashant responded well to emergency treatment and left the hospital on Thursday morning, Jyotish remains under intensive medical supervision after doctors referred him to the PGI due to the severity of his lacerations.
Police operations have intensified around the suspect’s known locations as investigators gather physical evidence from the colony. “A formal murder inquiry is underway as we process the details of this tragic event,” Balongi SHO Periwinkle Grewal declared. “We are pursuing several direct leads to bring the absconding attacker into custody.”
