by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Sept. 24, 2025: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) on Tuesday urged residents to adopt home composting to manage household waste and support the city’s cleanliness goals, organizing a live demonstration at Sector 27 under the banner of “Swachhata Hi Seva 2025.”

The community event, Swachhotsav, was attended by Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora, and local leaders, including Sector 27-D Resident Welfare Association (RWA) president Shikha Nijhawan.

A major highlight was Nijhawan’s live demonstration of simple composting methods, showing how everyday kitchen waste can be converted into nutrient-rich compost for home use.

Mayor Babla, addressing the gathering, said home composting is vital to reducing the strain on municipal services. “Every household can manage its own wet waste through easy composting methods, reducing the burden on civic infrastructure and contributing to a cleaner, greener city,” she noted.

Commissioner Kumar stressed the importance of community participation. “The government alone cannot uphold Swachhata. Public participation is essential. Every citizen must play an active role in keeping their surroundings clean,” he said.

The event concluded with a collective cleanliness pledge, distribution of educational material on composting and waste segregation, and active participation from residents who expressed support for citizen-led initiatives to sustain environmental health.
