FEROZEPUR, Oct 4: In a horrifying act of violence, a man allegedly tied his 17-year-old daughter’s hands and threw her into the Ferozepur Feeder canal on Tuesday night. The incident, reportedly videographed by the accused, Surjit Singh, went viral on social media, sparking outrage.
The accused, a resident of Housing Board Colony, had reportedly suspected his daughter Preet Kaur of misconduct and had previously beaten her. Around 8:40 pm on Tuesday, he took her on his motorcycle to the canal, tied her hands with a scarf, and threw her into the water.
The police arrested Surjit Singh under Section 302 of the IPC following a complaint lodged by Sahil Chauhan, the victim’s nephew, who had been tracking the accused that night.
Confessing to the crime, Surjit reportedly told investigators that his daughter “did not obey him and brought disgrace to his family due to her conduct,” and that was why he threw her into the canal.
SSP Bhupinder Singh said, “The matter was brought to the notice of the police by relatives of the deceased. Investigation was conducted and the accused has been arrested. A team of divers is searching for the body, but it has not been found yet.”
The incident has shocked the local community, highlighting concerns over domestic violence and the safety of minors.
