Ludhiana, June 13: The Punjab Government has directed Ludhiana municipal authorities to complete all comprehensive road repairs and secure open sewer networks before June 30. Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains finalized the order during a review meeting with civic leaders and regional legislators following a surprise administrative inspection of local neighborhoods.

The state directive introduces a mandatory morning field hour for all municipal executive officers to ensure direct supervision of public works.

Mr. Bains maintained that administrative negligence regarding basic public utilities would face strict disciplinary review as the region approaches the rainy season.

“We are monitoring every kilometre of road, every tubewell and every deadline,” the minister stated during the project review, noting that the state is tracking sewer clearance percentages closely.

The local administration noted that extensive maintenance works are currently managing 220 kilometers of municipal sewer lines, with specific urban zones prioritized to prevent seasonal flooding. To ensure a seamless public grievance system during weather events, the minister ordered the immediate activation of a continuous monitoring center to track and resolve water-logging complaints instantly.

The municipal body will also implement a series of street-level improvements, including the installation of new public waste bins, the repair of decorative traffic junctions, and the acquisition of independent mechanical shrub cutters to manage overgrowth along major roads. The minister stated that the city will independently clear obstructed national highway borders passing through municipal limits, transferring the operational costs directly to federal highway managers if local maintenance schedules are ignored.
