Pursue Apex Court Appeal Without Delay, High Court Tells Punjab Government

Division Bench stresses compliance of judicial orders as state seeks time to clear registry objections in Supreme Court.

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 10: The High Court asked the Punjab Government to clear technical objections in its Supreme Court appeal and seek an early hearing in the ongoing Dearness Allowance dispute. Hearing applications regarding the implementation of its August 3 ruling, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Rohit Kapoor affirmed that aggrieved parties have every right to appeal, but stressed that legal directions cannot be left hanging indefinitely.

The matter stems from a judicial direction ordering the state and PSPCL to disburse pending DA and DR dues to employees and pensioners on par with Central Government norms. Addressing state submissions regarding the timeline for filing appeals, the Bench noted that the challenge must be actively pursued rather than left lying in defects. Granting a one-week adjournment, the court instructed the state to bring its Supreme Court proceedings on record through an affidavit or proceed with arguments on compliance.
