Punjab to Offer Skill Certification with Class 12 Education Under New Govt Plan

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, November 11 — In a move described as a “revolution in education,” the Punjab government has partnered with Lend A Hand India (LAHI) to provide vocational and technical training to students in government schools alongside their regular curriculum.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), marks a significant milestone in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s push to align education with employability. The initiative will ensure that every student completing Class 12 earns two certificates — one academic and one vocational.

“Education is not just about passing exams; it’s about succeeding in life,” Chief Minister Mann said. “We want our children to be skilled, confident, and capable of shaping their own futures.”

Officials said the partnership would bring modern skill training into classrooms through hands-on learning, access to equipment, and internships. LAHI will provide technical support and materials for vocational programmes already being implemented in other parts of India.

Under this initiative, the Punjab government seeks to create a new model where education leads directly to employment and entrepreneurship. “This is the Punjab of the Mann government — where every student leaves school not only with knowledge but also with the skills to earn and grow,” said a senior official.

The scheme aims to make students job-ready and self-reliant, reflecting what the government calls “education with life skills.” It also aligns with the state’s larger effort to strengthen its economy by producing a skilled workforce.

Calling the initiative a “bridge between education and livelihood,” Mann said, “Skill in every hand and confidence on every face — that is the Punjab we are building.”
