Chandigarh, Nov 12: The newly sanctioned Ferozepur–Patti rail line will not only reduce travel time between Ferozepur and Amritsar but also connect the border district directly to ports in Gujarat.
Officials said the line’s strategic importance lies in strengthening trade links from Punjab’s border belt to western ports, giving a major boost to exports and regional industry.
The project, estimated at ₹764 crore, is expected to enhance both connectivity and economic activity in the region.
Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Bittu announced the decision on Wednesday. Officials said the Punjab Chief Secretary has been informed and asked to initiate the land acquisition process.
Once completed, the new rail link will directly connect Ferozepur and Amritsar, reducing the distance between the two cities by nearly 100 km.
