FEROZEPUR, Nov. 20 —Ferozepur police apprehended the prime accused in the murder of Naveen Arora, son of an RSS leader, following a brief gunfight. The killing on Saturday evening had prompted an intensive search operation across the district.

SSP Bhupinder Singh said police received information about Gursimran Singh, alias Jatin Kali, who was spotted near Sodhiwala in Arif Ke village. “We cordoned off the area and set up checkpoints. When he was signalled to stop at a naka, the accused tried to flee, prompting a chase,” Singh said.

During the pursuit, the suspect opened fire at police personnel, hitting the front windscreen of a patrol vehicle. “The bullet narrowly missed the driver. Police returned fire, injuring him in the leg, after which he was taken into custody and admitted to Civil Hospital,” the SSP added.

Authorities confirmed that the accused wielded a .32 bore pistol, and are verifying if it was the weapon used in Arora’s murder. Two other suspects, Harsh and Kanav, had been arrested earlier, while the identity of another individual is being withheld to avoid compromising the investigation. A fifth accused, Badal, remains absconding.

“The motive behind Naveen Arora’s killing is still under investigation,” Singh said.

The arrest comes amid heightened security and scrutiny in Ferozepur, with police vowing to bring all involved to justice.
